Neko Harbor

Where'd You Go Bernadette

Neko Harbor is a point on the route taken by Bernadette Fox’s ship, the Allegra, and the last confirmed place her daughter recalls her mother going ashore. Its importance lies in the gap between that known stop and the later discovery that the voyage never came near Palmer Station, where Bernadette was eventually sought.

Place on Bernadette’s Route

According to the account Bee pieces together, Bernadette got off the ship at Neko Harbor and then reboarded. The dated map of her December 26 voyage traces the Allegra from Tierra del Fuego to Deception Island, around the Antarctic Peninsula, deep into the Weddell Sea, and back by Neko Harbor and Adelaide Island. From there, the ship turned through the Bransfield Strait toward King George Island and Ushuaia.

Role in the Search

Neko Harbor anchors the last known portion of Bernadette’s movements aboard the cruise. The map makes the route’s limits concrete: despite the family’s hope of finding her at Palmer Station, the Allegra did not come near the station. The contrast between a remembered landing at Neko Harbor and a documented route that excludes Palmer redirects the search from assumption toward the details of where and when Bernadette may have left the ship.
